MAJA SISKA

The act of making with her own hands is central to Maja Siska´s work and motivation to create. Maja is a textile artist with a background in architecture who has lived in Iceland since 2000. She is a hand spinner, dyer and weaver working with local wool, horsehair and often other farm debris like baler twine and chicken feathers. 

There is a magic to transforming raw Icelandic wool into yarn and weaving it into cloth. Using traditional methods and recipes Maja Siska experiences this material metamorphosis with her own hands and eyes, resulting in a cloth that embodies the process. The act of making connects her to the past and creates the future and helps herto feel rooted in her time and place. Her pieces convey this feeling ofc onnectedness and belonging. 

Maja Siska’s woollen installations and wall hangings contribute to interiors in practical, sensory, and human-centred ways. Beyond their visual presence, they help shape spaces that feel warmer, quieter, and more responsive to the people who use them.
