Jú

Jú means “yes, I can”,pronounced like eweIcelandic wool and beach stones. Handspun yarns woven on an upright warp weighted loom, an instrument dating back at least 9000 years.The process of weaving creates a personality for this rya (=varafeldur).Part of “Ode to the sheep”, shown at Grafíksalur, Reykjavík and Shetland Museum and Archives, 2017
As I am weaving back and forth, I reach inside the warp to pass through the weft yarn, my arms are inside the Jú. My head leans into her locks, which fall over my hair. She finds her voice as “clack clack” the stones move and she demands: “A tail and a horn!”.     

Jú, hljómar eins og enska heitið á kind: ewe
Íslensk ull og fjörusteinar. Handspunnið band ofið á kljásteinsvefstól, verkfæri með 9000 ára sögu.
Þegar ég er að vefa fram og til baka, teygi ég mig inn í vefinn, og handleggurinn minn er komin inn í “Jú”. Ég halla höfðinu að lokkunum hennar og þeir blandast hárinu mínu. Hún finnur röddina sína þegar steinarnir hreyfast “klak klak”; og hún krefur mig um tagl og horn.
