Maja Siska is a German born textiler, architect, designer and knitter living in Iceland since 2000. She holds a M.Arch from Arizona State University.
This online gallery displays some of her textile work, characterised by the exploration of everyday materials found in her immediate surrounding like wool, baler twine and corrugated metal. These mundane materials are put into a new context and purpose through her skilful intervention of spinning, weaving, dyeing, painting. When working with Icelandic wool straight from the sheep, the process of making takes on a reverential aspect: working with her own two hands is at the heart of her exploration and leads to a connection with the historical and cultural aspects of material and place.
